Artists, entertainers and community activists are rallying to save Long Island’s only public radio station.
Celebrities like Alec Baldwin and Joy Behar are among dozens backing a community effort to purchase WLIU-FM in Southampton from Long Island University.
The university, which sold its Southampton College campus three years ago, says it can no longer afford to subsidize the station.
Organizers, who expect to have a competitive bid for the station by the Sept. 23 due date, hope they’re not outbid by a national religious broadcasting company.
