A French art dealer’s dream of getting millions in damages over allegations he sold fake ceramics was shattered yesterday.
Enrico Navarra sued the Marlborough Gallery last year for allegedly engineering a “smear campaign” challenging the authenticity of plates designed by famed Chinese artist Chu Teh-Chun and marketed by Navarra.
But Manhattan federal Judge Barbara Jones tossed the suit, saying any wrongdoing Navarra alleged is only “speculation.”
Jones also rejected Navarra’s charge that the gallery tried to monopolize the market in Chu’s ceramics to preserve the value of 57 vases it commissioned.
Navarra’s lawyer declined to comment.
