The controversy over term limits in the city is up for discussion at the May 25 meeting of the city Charter Revision Commission.

The 15-member commission, which is holding a series of public hearings on various issues related to the city’s government structure, was put in place this year after Mayor Bloomberg and the City Council extended term limits in 2008 so he could run for a third term last year.

He narrowly won reelection and promised to appoint a commission to study the entire charter.

Among the issues the body is considering asking voters to weigh in on in November is whether city officials should have two- or three-year terms.

Any changes to term limits would not affect those elected under the current three-term structure.

The commission will discuss term limits May 25 at 6 p.m. in Brooklyn Borough Hall.
