Cheap Trick may have pulled a costly stunt.
The ’70s rockers were hit with a trademark lawsuit yesterday for falsely claiming the New York Philharmonic collaborated on their latest release.
The orchestra wants unspecified damages over liner notes to “Sgt. Pepper Live,” a song-for-song remake of the groundbreaking 1967 Beatles album.
Both the CD and the DVD versions say 25 members of the New York Philharmonic took part in the recording. They were actually musicians from the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the suit says.
Cheap Trick’s record label, Big3 Entertainment — which is also targeted in the suit — didn’t return a request for comment.
