Government secrets leaker-turned-ex-con Chelsea Manning popped up in the heart of Times Square on Monday — looking more like a wide-eyed tourist than espionage criminal in a striped tee, jeans and sneakers.
“just hanging out at times square, with @abc jumbotron for @jujuchangabc @nightline interview – very meta, huh?” the transgender woman formerly known as Bradley tweeted shortly after 10:30 a.m., posting a selfie in front of the mega-screen with her featured on it.
A photographer appeared to be with Manning, taking snapshots of her as she gazed up in the Crossroads of the World.
The 29-year-old former Army private was released from prison last month after serving seven years for violating the federal Espionage Act by dumping hundreds of thousands of documents on Wikileaks.
She had been sentenced to 35 years behind bars before then-President Obama pardoned her.
Manning told TV’s “Nightline” in an interview that aired over the weekend that she was the only one responsible for her actions.
“It’s on me,” she said.
Her recent tweets also included a link to a New York Times article titled, “The Long, Lonely Road of Chelsea Manning.”
