A major plan to redevelop Manhattan’s Chelsea Market got the green light from the City Planning Commission today and is now on its way to the City Council for final approval.

The proposal would allow Jamestown Properties to expand its Chelsea market by changing zoning rules.

Council Speaker Christine Quinn, whose district houses the development, has yet to weigh in on the controversial plan.

The Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation said the plan “will ruin a beloved New York City landmark and greatly exacerbate traffic and congestion in a neighborhood already bursting at the seams.”
