A group of children battling cancer met New York’s finest at NYPD headquarters Tuesday.
The kids traveled to the Big Apple from cities as far as Miami, Chicago and Houston and were welcomed to One Police Plaza where they got the chance to meet New York City police officers.
The non-profit group, Sunshine Kids, organized the meet-up for the children to visit the officers in New York City.
The meet-up was organized by the nonprofit Sunshine Kids, which is committed to providing positive group activities and emotional support to children with cancer diagnoses across North America.
The children were given a behind-the-scenes look at the country’s largest police department and were introduced to officers from various units outside the NYPD headquarters.
The kids also got to meet NYPD’s K-9 unit, the Emergency Service Unit, and Highway Patrol.
The kids were greeted by the NYPD’s mounted unit and their horse pals, the NYPD K-9 unit, the Emergency Service Unit and Highway Patrol among others.
“These kids are an inspiration to us,” NYPD First Deputy Commissioner Edward Caban said. “They are warriors and we are grateful to host them and get to know them.”

The NYPD has been partnering with Sunshine Kids, which was founded in 1982, for the past several years to offer meet-ups like Tuesday’s.
“The @SunshineKidsOrg helps bring smiles to the faces of children bravely battling cancer — and today they also brightened our day at NYPD HQ,” NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell said in a tweet. “We were happy to have them visit and meet some of NY’s Finest. They’re welcome anytime!
