STAMFORD, Conn. — The Connecticut woman severely mauled by her friend’s chimpanzee has made an emotional return to the hospital where she received emergency medical care.

Charla Nash, wearing a veil over her face and accompanied by her brother, received hugs from members of the ER staff at Stamford Hospital who assisted during eight hours of surgery after the February 2009 attack.

Nash is currently living near Boston and awaiting word on whether she is eligible for hand and face surgery.

The chimpanzee ripped off Nash’s hands, nose, lips and eyelids before it was shot to death by police.
