Ng Lap SengThe Donorgate-linked Chinese businessman who was arrested in New York for allegedly smuggling $4.5 million in cash into the United States is too rich to release on bond, prosecutors argued successfully.
Ng Lap Seng was busted Saturday for allegedly sneaking cash aboard his private planes from China.
“There is not a bail package . . . that would actually hold this individual,” Assistant US Attorney Janis Echenberg said in Manhattan federal court Monday, adding that Ng is worth $1.8 billion.
The judge ordered Ng, 68, who allegedly funneled $1.4 million to Democrats before the 1996 elections, remanded.
