In the wake of dozens of complaints and a threatened lawsuit over its handling of parent council elections, the Department of Education has agreed to postpone voting for a week.

“I have concluded that the process could and should have been handled better,” Chancellor Dennis Walcott said in a statement.

This was a change of tone from last week, when officials seemed to dismiss parents’ complaints about the election process — which were documented in The Post.

They included the wrongful exclusion of parents from ballots, an online-only vote that excluded those without internet access, and the late publication of candidates’ names.

The about-face came on the same day that the New York City Parents Union filed a temporary restraining order seeking to scrap and re-do the elections from square on.

The restraining order was pulled after the city agreed to put things on hold.

The councils draw school zoning lines, but otherwise only advise the DOE.
