Three women with relatives buried in the city’s potter’s field on Hart Island are close to settling a lawsuit seeking easier access to the cemetery, sources said on Tuesday.

“Family members of those buried on the island wish to visit the grave sites of their loved ones to mourn, to pray or just to be in their presence,” said the lawsuit, which claimed that relatives have trouble reaching the Department of Correction-run cemetery, where about 1 million poor or unknown people are buried.

The city is close to settling the suit, which seeks “reasonable” access to the site, situated in Long Island Sound off The Bronx, sources said. Details were not immediately available.
