Hate crimes — from racist graffiti to violent homophobic attacks — would be reported in weekly crime data, if a City Council bill becomes law.

Hate-crime data isn’t readily available to the public and doesn’t appear in the online CompStat database. There have been 213 possible bias crimes reported through Sept. 13 this year, down from 221 incidents in the same period last year.
