The city has hauled in $11.1 million after offering to waive penalties and interest for businesses that owed $200 million in fines to the Environmental Control Board, officials said today.

The largest single check — $300,000 — was paid by Con Ed to settle debts totalling more than $750,000.

The grace period was first suggested by City Council Speaker Christine Quin last year.

It ended on Dec. 21.

“The Penalty Relief Program provided an opportunity to businesses and homeowners who had violations to resolve thier debts at a significantly reduced cost. Over 6,000 applicants took part in the program, and saved $23 million in penalties and interest during challenging economic times, while the city was able to collect over $11 million,” said Finance Department spokesman Owen Stone.
