The number of overdoses in the city has climbed for the fifth straight year, jumping from 800 in 2014 to 937 last year, the Health Department reported Tuesday.
Fentanyl, an opioid that’s far more potent than morphine, played a role in 16 percent of the deaths; in the 10 years prior, it was a factor in just 3 percent.
