Just days after Gov. Cuomo launched a six-agency task force to address widespread labor and health violations at city nail salons, Mayor de Blasio launched his own initiative involving four city agencies.
The city’s efforts are focused on educating the workers and advocating for better and safer work conditions because the salons are licensed and regulated by the state.
The city Department of Consumer Affairs is also launching probes — but it will focus on testing the products used in the salons rather than on the conditions in the shops themselves.
Cuomo’s task force was charged with recovering unpaid wages for the workers and shutting down any salons that are skirting state law.
