New Yorkers whose homes were ravaged by Hurricane Sandy are finally getting some relief.
Mayor Bloomberg will announce today that the city will reassess all properties in Zone A — the area hardest hit by the storm — in an effort to reduce their tax bills, sources told The Post.
Adding insult to injury, the owners of storm-struck houses were hit with rising tax bills this year, largely due to higher assessments.
The Finance Department blamed the hikes on a convoluted tax formula established in Albany that requires assessments increase at a capped amount over five years, regardless of market value.
The city allows taxpayers to appeal their assessments every year.
