ALBANY — Gov. Cuomo yesterday tapped former Citigroup and Time Warner CEO Richard Parsons to head a new education-reform commission aimed at improving student performance statewide.

The group includes legislators, as well as union, business, community and charter-school advocates.

Cuomo called for an “action plan” that “can be translated into legislation” and implemented.

Observers likened it to his Medicaid Redesign Team, which brought together often-warring interests to figure out how to reach the Cuomo-set goal of cutting costs.

Asked if he thought Parsons — who’s been mentioned in the past as a potential New York City mayoral candidate — would make a good mayor, Cuomo replied, “Ask Mr. Parsons.” Parsons then quipped, “Ask Mrs. Parsons.”
