CNN’s Erin Burnett is being skewered for reporting that the gunman who opened fire in a Midtown skyscraper — killing an NYPD cop and three others — was “possibly white” after viewing the initial security footage released immediately after Shane Tamura’s deadly rampage.

In the photos first shared online, Tamura, 27, was captured in broad daylight walking into 345 Park Ave. with a Palmetto State Armory AR-15 rifle in his hand.

Burnett said police knew the gunman had “sunglasses, mustache, male, possibly white” during a broadcast shortly after the shooting Monday evening.

The chilling image of Tamura with the AR-15, however, showed him with a possibly darker or ethnically mixed complexion.

Early police reports also suggested the suspect might be of Middle Eastern descent.

Online critics slammed Burnett’s statement for being too premature and presumptive.

“He may be a bunch of different things, basically anything BUT white,” one internet commenter said.

“CNN should be shut down.  They have not reported a truthful story in what seems like forever,” another commenter on X said. 

Other users said the suspect’s race was “irrelevant.”

How the shooting unfolded

• Reports of the shooting at 345 Park Ave. start coming in around 6:28 p.m.
• Shane Tamura, 27, is seen getting out of a black BMW between 51st and 52nd streets with an M4 rifle.
• He enters the lobby and turns right, where he shoots police officer Didarul Islam, 36, dead.
• Tamura guns down a woman cowering behind a pillar in the lobby, sprays more bullets and walks toward the elevator bank — where he shoots dead a security guard crouching at his desk.
• One more man reports being shot and injured in the lobby. He was in critical but stable condition.
• The gunman allows a woman to walk out of the elevators unharmed before heading up to the 33rd floor, where building owner Rudin Properties’ offices are located, “and begins to walk the floor, firing as he traveled.”
• One woman is shot and killed on that floor before Tamura shoots himself in the chest.
• It’s unclear how long the mayhem lasted. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch posted on X at 7:52 p.m.: “The scene has been contained and the lone shooter has been neutralized.”

NYPD Officer Didarul Islam, 36, was gunned down in the lobby, and three civilians who have not yet been identified were also fatally shot when Tamura stormed the swanky Midtown skyscraper early Monday evening — before turning the gun on himself, police said.

The 27-year-old maniac barged into the 44-story building — which houses the headquarters for financial giant Blackstone and the NFL — armed with a rifle and opened fire around 6:30 p.m. during the evening rush, cops and law enforcement sources told The Post.

Tamura, who authorities said had a “mental health history,” unleashed his rampage after setting foot in the lobby, first gunning down Islam, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said at a Monday evening press conference.

Footage posted to social media shows bystanders running for their lives outside the building, and workers were also later seen filing out of the high-rise with their hands up.
