CNN fired a senior Middle East editor Wednesday for complimenting a Hezbollah leader from her personal Twitter account.

Octavia Nasr, the U.S. cable news network’s senior editor of Mideast Affairs, was shown the door after tweeting she was “sad” to hear of the death of a Hezbollah leader who she respected a lot, media website Mediaite reported.

The U.S. State Department considers Hezbollah a Foreign Terrorist Organization.

Nasr later backpedaled from the remarks in a lengthy blog post but it was too little, too late.

“At this point, we believe that her credibility in her position as senior editor for Middle Eastern affairs has been compromised going forward,” CNN Senior Vice President Parisa Khosravi wrote in a memo announcing the firing.

Nasr’s Twitter account has been quiet since the incident, though on Wednesday it still listed her as a CNN employee and was branded with the network’s logo.
