Bjoern KilsThe Coast Guard is hot on the trail of a whale swimming in New York Harbor Thursday morning.
Ship captains first reported the “large” mammal cruising along the Staten Island ferry route at around 8 a.m., according to Charles Roe, a spokesman for the Coast Guard Sector New York.
Since then, at least three more sightings of the same sea beast have been reported.
“We haven’t seen it ourselves, but we consider the reports to be reliable,” Roe said.
“We sent out a notice to mariners to be aware of it and to be on the lookout for it,” he added.
It is unclear what kind of whale it is and how big it is.
