A drug-addled and naked Columbia University student needed to be rescued from the Hudson River Friday night after taking an evening swim during a severe thunderstorm, police sources said.
The unidentified 24-year-old man, who has a psychiatric history, was spotted about 60 feet from the West Harlem Piers, about 10 blocks from Columbia University, sources said.
Detective Martin Duffy, Police Officer Jason Ramirez, Sergeant Thomas Liso, and Detective Jason CurleyHe was in extreme distress and could not swim on his own, forcing Detective Jason Curley to jump in for the man, who had lost consciousness and was sinking, cops said.
Curley managed to grab the young man and secure him to a pillar in the water while two other officers jumped in to help, police said.
The three officers secured the victim and swam back to shore, where they climbed out using a rope ladder.
The victim was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.
This is the second emotionally disturbed, naked male associated with Columbia University to need police assistance this week.
On Thursday morning, 21-year-old Krit McClean performed a naked dance in Times Square, taunting officers and screaming for Donald Trump as he evaded cops on top of the red bleachers above the TKTS booth in Times Square.
Both incidents are under investigation.
