A respected former NYPD chief is being brought back by Commissioner Ray Kelly to run the department’s vaunted CompStat programs, The Post has learned.

Patrick Timlin was a 22-year NYPD veteran and a lawyer when he left New York’s Finest in 2002.

An NYPD spokesman said Kelly will announce the appointment Monday.
