Comptroller Scott Stringer wants to hand out more than $2.5 million – if he he can find the people owed the money.

Stringer on Thursday launched a new campaign to publicize unclaimed funds from settlements against dozens of contractors who paid their workers less than “prevailing wages” on city contracts.

More than 1,200 workers — including many undocumented immigrants — are due checks.

“The hateful, anti-immigrant rhetoric coming out of Washington has created a climate of fear, leaving employees too afraid to hold employers accountable when they withhold their pay,” Stringer said.

The comptroller said that since 2014 his office has assessed more than $27 million in prevailing wage violations and paid more than $12 million. He’s also debarred 50 contractors who took advantage of workers.

Workers who believe they are owed money can check the Comptroller’s website.

As of Thursday, the list had 1,215 names.
