Congress has launched a federal investigation into the water-contamination crisis in upstate Hoosick Falls — with members demanding answers from Gov. Cuomo’s administration.
“That, I think is nothing short of a bombshell,” said Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin, a Republican who represents the tiny town outside Albany.
The House Oversight Committee sent a letter claiming the administration knew Hoosick Falls’ water was tainted with a toxin used to make Teflon but failed to alert residents for a year. The committee, which has subpoena power, requested records and asked tough questions.
“They’re pretty blunt and direct about what Congress is seeking from the Cuomo administration, from the EPA, which is accountability,” McLaughlin said.
Cuomo’s office said the administration followed EPA guidelines and acted swiftly, and added that it would be happy to provide answers.
