Cooling down heart-attack victims has saved so many lives in emergency rooms that the city has become the nation’s first to expand the program to ambulances, Mayor Bloomberg said yesterday.

The survival rate of 2,600 patients rushed into hypthothermia therapy between January 2009 and June 2010 was 20 percent higher than for those who weren’t cooled off in 2008.
