A Port Authority Police sergeant who talked a suicidal war vet down from a bridge six years ago, was a life saver again this week, convincing a man not to take the plunge from a Midtown building, sources said.

Sgt. Rudy Fernandez responded to a report of a distraught 29-year-old dangling his legs out the window of the fifth floor of the Midtown Bus Terminal at around 7:05 pm Wednesday, according to Port Authority spokesperson Joseph Pentangelo.

The man claimed to be from upstate New York, but now homeless, and off his medications.

It took five minutes for Fernandez– a 24-year Port Authority vet– to talk the unidentified man off the ledge.

The trick? He convinced the man that despite his hardships, life would get better, sources said.

The man was then taken to Roosevelt Hospital for further evaluation.

Back in 2010, Fernandez was named October 2010’s “Cop of the Month” by the Port Authority Police Benevolent Association for taking a suicidal Iraq war veteran off the Outerbridge Crossing.
