Color of Change had suggested on its @KilledByCops Twitter feed that Police Officer Richard Burt did something wrong gunning down Othniel Askew inside City Hall in 2003.

The Twitter feed is part of the group’s “national spotlight on the crisis of police violence.”

In fact, Burt was widely lauded for saving lives by shooting Askew, who’d murdered City Councilman James Davis in the crowded City Council chambers.

“Obviously, there are terrible cases of police brutality that do occur, but this is the opposite of that,” said former Council Speaker Gifford Miller, whom Burt was assigned to guard.
