An NYPD recruit died yesterday after jogging with other rookie cops during a training exercise near the Police Academy.

Sherman Abrams, 29, of Brooklyn, complained of shortness of breath as the group ran down the FDR Highway between Houston and 14th streets.

His fellow recruits sat him down and called EMS, but Abrams died at Beth Israel Hospital.

The cause had yet to be determined late last night, but the department said it was treating it as a line-of-duty death.

The Police Academy is located on East 20th Street between Second and Third avenues.
