A plainclothes officer shot and wounded an armed man in Crown Heights early Friday morning, according to police.

The unidentified officer was on patrol with two other members of the Brooklyn North anti-gang squad near St Johns Place and Rochester Avenue around 1:30 a.m. when they heard gunshots a block away, Assistant Chief Jeffrey Maddrey said in a statement.

When they investigated, they found a man with a gun chasing another man down Rochester Avenue between Park and Sterling, according to the chief.

The cops got out of their car and ordered the man to stop, Maddrey said, and when their order was ignored, the sergeant fired, hitting the gunman once in the left thigh.

The gunman, identified as 20-year-old Tymel Abrams, kept running around the corner onto St. John’s Place, where he finally dropped his weapon–a black .25 caliber handgun–and collapsed, according to police.

Abrams was taken to Brookdale Hospital in stable condition and charges against him are pending, a police spokesman said.
