Authorities have arrested two men in connection with a shooting outside an Atlantic City casino that left a police officer in critical condition and another suspect dead.

Acting Atlantic City Prosecutor Diane Ruberton says 19-year-old Martell Chisholm of Millville, New Jersey, and 28-year-old Demetrius Cross of Bridgeton, New Jersey, each are charged with two counts of attempted murder, robbery and weapons offenses. The dead suspect is identified as 25-year-old Jerome Damon of Camden, New Jersey.

The shooting happened early Saturday after prosecutors say two officers observed a robbery in progress near a Caesars casino parking garage.

One officer was shot and injured as he was getting out of his vehicle. The second officer returned fire and struck one of the suspects, who was found dead a short distance away.
