A 53-year-old man was arrested Monday morning in Astoria in connection with a killing at a Manhattan homeless shelter and the attempted robbery of a livery driver in Queens, police said.

William Smith, 53, was suspected in the killing of Marcus Guerreio, 56, at the Bellevue Men’s Shelter on East 30th Street and First Avenue.

Guerreio was found dead in his bed at 8:25 a.m. Friday. His neck was slit and wrapped in a thin wire.

Hours later, at 12:30 a.m. Saturday, livery driver Manuel Vera, 43, was slashed in the head and neck during an attempted robbery in Corona. Smith was identified as the suspect because he left his wallet and cell phone in the cab.

“I was really scared. When he first stabbed me he wanted to keep going. I had to defend myself,” Vera previously told The Post.

Smith was arrested at the corner of Ditmars Blvd and 31st St. after getting off a train, police sources said.
