Orlando OquendoPolice on Friday arrested a 17-year-old who they say shot an innocent bystander in broad daylight in The Bronx.
Orlando Oquendo faces murder, manslaughter and weapons possession charges for allegedly killing Maribel Cavero-Reyes, 45.
Cavero-Reyes was visiting a relative on East 154th Street near Elton Avenue in Melrose when she happened upon Oquendo chasing another man, according to police. Oquendo fired one shot at the man he was chasing, but the bullet struck Cavero-Reyes in the chest instead, cops said.
The shooting happened shortly before 1 p.m.
Oquendo lives in Melrose, just three blocks from the site of the killing, according to officials.
