A toddler was found wandering the streets of Canarsie alone Sunday by a good Samaritan who draped a sweater over the barely clothed youngster and called police, according to cops and witnesses.

Anthony Folkes, 62, was doing the dishes around 8 a.m. when he saw the tot — a 3-year-old boy — wandering the street near Avenue K and E. 98th Street.

At first, the kid appeared to be following a woman, away but Folkes said he knew something was wrong when the boy — wearing only a T-shirt, diaper and rubber slippers — returned moments later alone.

“I said, ‘No no no — something is wrong,’” said Folkes a government tax auditor who also teaches karate. “Why would a woman or anybody leave a child out on the road like this?”

“He only had on a T-shirt and it was a bit chilly, so I went and got a sweater and I put it around him. I put him in my car, my car was parked here, and waited for the cops to come.”

The boy seemed to be healthy, said Folkes, who described him as “joyful.”

The child was taken to Kings County Hospital in good physical health, police said.

Officials found the kid’s 33-year-old mother at a home across the street and questioned her before reuniting her with the child, police said.

Police are still investigating how the child managed to get out. Another child lives in the house, police said.

Officials did not expect to charge the mother Sunday morning, but the Administration for Children’s Services was notified, according to cops.
