NYPD cops have identified the woman whose torso was found floating in a Brooklyn waterway — using the only clue they had, a Sanskrit tattoo, police said.

Cops had released a photo of the body art — a name written in Sanskrit surrounded by stars — hoping it would lead to identification.

The mother walked into the 76th Precinct stationhouse in Carroll Gardens Thursday and told cops that the tattoo was a tribute to her daughter’s dead aunt, Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce told reporters.

Boyce did not identify the mother or daughter, but said that they live in New Jersey and the case is an active homicide investigation in that state.

“If you saw where the dismemberment was, that could not possibly be an accident,” Boyce said.
