YONKERS, N.Y. — Police say a 5-foot boa constrictor was cold and lethargic when they rescued it off a suburban New York street.

They have no clue how the snake ended up there. Officer Joe Mahoney says it was lying there, all curled up, when the Yonkers Emergency Services Unit was called around 8 a.m. Friday. It was about 42 degrees.

He and Officer Brian Devitt put the sleepy snake into a pillow case, then took it to a pet shop.

The store owner, Lou Guadio, says the snake is in good shape despite its ordeal.

He figures it’s a pet that got loose, and wonders who’s looking for it.
