With 50,000 runners expecting to be carving through New York streets cheered on by over two-million spectators, the NYPD said it’s leaving nothing to chance in making Sunday’s marathon safe and secure.

Police Commissioner James O’Neill said security will be carried on by land, sea and air — and with several thousand armed officers stationed along the route interspersed with plainclothes detectives.

“There will be much the public will see and much the public will not see,” the city’s top cop said at a press conference Wednesday about what New Yorkers can expect security-wise at the huge annual event.

O’Neill pledged it will be a “safe event” where everyone will have a good time and told New Yorkers to leave the security up to the police.

“My biggest concern is that we get through the day safely,” he said. “That’s my biggest concern every day for New York.”
