A 19-year-old man gunned down a Midwood man on Avenue J and East 12th Street early Tuesday morning only to turn around and get apprehended by two police officers.

Officials said that Officers Christopher Deats and Allison Rodriguez of the 70th Precinct were patrolling Coney Island Avenue in Midwood at 12:15 am on March 23 when they heard a single gunshot.

They turned onto Avenue J, where they found suspect Julio Iglesias firing two more shots at Midwood resident Gavin Torres, alleged officials.

Officers Deats and Rodriguez identified themselves and chased Iglesias around the corner, where they saw him ditch both a gun and a knife.

They ultimately tackled Iglesias, taking him into custody.

Torres was rushed to Kings County Hospital, where he died of his injuries.

Iglesias, a resident of 60th Street, was charged with murder in the second degree and criminal possession of a firearm. The weapons were recovered.

At press time, it was unclear what prompted the shooting.

The 19-year-old Iglesias is not the reknown singer.
