NYPD officers came to the rescue of a feathered friend around 1 p.m. Sunday inside Fort Tryon Park in Fort George, after neighborhood residents spotted a tiny stray parakeet flying around, police said Tuesday.

“A little guy like this would not survive outdoors. Lucky for him, Neighborhood Coordination Officers Polster and Callan were nearby at Fort Tryon Park to lend a hand and get him to a safe rescue facility,” reads a post on the 34 Precinct Twitter account, along with a photograph of the white bird being cradled in Polster’s hands.

The officers took the healthy bird to The Center For Avian & Exotic Medicine in the Upper West Side, police said.
