Two NYPD officers rescued an escaped teenage psych patient as he was trying to leap off an elevated portion of the Van Wyck Expressway in Queens Monday, sources said.

The cops, from the Strategic Response Group, were driving on the highway at 8:30 p.m. when they saw 17-year-old San Yambao who had earlier ducked out of the psychiatric ward at Elmhurst Hospital Center, according to law-enforcement sources.

Yambao, who muttered that he “wanted to kill himself,” attempted to leap, but the officers rushed to tackle him and take him into custody.

The teen was returned to the hospital, where he was being evaluated.
