Police say a 12-year-old boy is responsible for scrawling anti-Semitic graffiti throughout a Queens playground.
“The NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force now have the suspect — a 12-year-old male — in custody,” NYPD Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea tweeted Wednesday night. “Great job @NYPDHateCrimes No matter the face of hate, the NYPD, partnered with the community, has ZERO tolerance.”
The pre-teen, whose name was not released because of his age, was arrested after cops received an anonymous tip. He was charged with aggravated harassment for the graffiti, which was drawn Friday in chalk throughout the playground of PS 139 on Queens Boulevard in Rego Park.
A custodian discovered the hate-filled messages, which included “Hail Hitler” and “No Jews allowed,” in addition to dozens of swastikas.
The boy was processed by police and released to his parents.
“Truly unbelievable. I am shocked that a 12-year-old committed this crime,” tweeted City Councilwoman Karen Koslowitz, who first publicized the incident on Twitter. “It’s completely unacceptable and has no place in our society.”
