A man was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver in Williamsburg early Monday, police said.
The 50-year-old Brooklyn resident was crossing Metropolitan Avenue when he was hit by a car around 3:45 a.m. as it was traveling westbound near Grand Street, police said. The driver then sped off, leaving the man lying in the roadway with severe trauma to his head and body.
The victim was taken to NYC Health and Hospitals/Woodhull, where he died soon after.
Police did not yet have a description of the runaway vehicle and were still searching for the driver.
The victim’s identity was being withheld pending family notification, police said.
