Cops are scratching their heads after a mysterious car pulled up to a Rockland County pier and rolled into the frigid waters of the Hudson River — with the car and the driver still unaccounted for.
Police in Piermont said the puzzling predicament unfolded around 2 p.m. Wednesday, when surveillance video caught the car pulling up to the end of the riverfront village’s landmark pier and rolling into the water, according to a press release.
The unidentified driver was spotted jumping out of the vehicle before it hit the river, leaving tire tracks in the snow and scattered car parts as the only clues.
The Piermont Police Department and the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office have since been scouring the river but have come up empty in their attempts to locate the car — and haven’t ID’d the driver.
The pier, a popular recreational spot for locals, was closed to the public during the search.

Piermont police and the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office have been searching the Hudson River for a car that rolled into the freezing waters on Wednesday afternoon and disappeared — along with the driver. News12 Westchester“The policeman was sitting there in his car so he advised me that nobody was allowed down there, either walking or traveling,” resident Martin McIntyre told News12 on Wednesday. “He told me then that a car went off the end of the pier.
“I mean, hypothermia would set it very quickly now should anybody find themselves in the water there,” McIntyre told the outlet.
