Criminals are facing a new hi-tech crime-fighting weapon.

The NYPD is introducing a new computer program that uses advanced facial recognition to help identify wanted criminals caught in the act on surveillance video.

Those images will be matched to a library of NYPD mugshots to help hunt the suspects down, according to a recent NYPD memo.

The police department plans to assemble a unit of cops that will use the program, along with others to enhance the video images and help identify matches, the memo said.

The new Facial Recognition Unit will be added to The NYPD’s Real Time Crime Center, which use various databases to help investigators identify wanted criminals.
