An 18-year-old bicyclist was killed on Wednesday morning after a driver blew through a red light and struck him before dragging him down Flatbush Avenue, police said.
The horror began at 9:30 am as the bicyclist turned from Beverley Road onto Flatbush Avenue and was struck by the impatient driver of a white minivan, who had apparently swerved from behind a car that had properly heeded the red light.
The teenaged bicyclist died at the scene.
Police charged the driver, identified as 29-year-old Michael Oxley, with criminally negligent homicide, plus driving with a suspended license. Police said that he was not intoxicated, a rare case of such a homicide count against a sober driver.
Wednesday was a day of carnage for Brooklyn cyclists. Hours earlier, a rider in East New York was struck by a Toyota Camry as he turned off the service road onto Linden Boulevard near Schenck Avenue.
That bicyclist was in critical condition, officials said.
