A state Correction officer lost his cool over a raccoon he spotted in his Queens yard and fired eight rounds at the animal — shooting up his neighbor’s garage in the process, police and sources said Wednesday.
Anthony Greaves, 33, was off duty and at his Jamaica home on 109th Avenue on Tuesday around 10:30 p.m. when he heard his dog fighting with an animal, law enforcement sources told The Post.
Greaves went to his backyard and saw a raccoon perched on a fence, sources said. He pulled out a .45-cal semi-automatic gun and shot at it, wounding the animal — and hitting his neighbor’s garage twice, they said. It wasn’t immediately clear whether the gun was Greaves’ service weapon.
The animal scurried away and could not be found. Greaves was arrested and charged with aggravated cruelty to animals and reckless endangerment, police said.
A state Department of Correction spokesman said Greaves, who works at the Fishkill Correctional Facility, will be suspended without pay.
