A New York woman says she had trouble getting housing after a consumer credit reporting agency screwed up her records, making it look as if she had a criminal past.

Rachel A. Davis claims in a Manhattan federal court lawsuit that the Maryland company, Corelogic Saferent, generated a report on her personal records claiming she had nearly a decade’s worth of convictions in Texas.

But the alleged transgressions, including theft and possession of a controlled substance, “belong to another individual with the same or similar name,” according to Davis’ suit.

Corelogic shared the incorrect information with prospective landlords, making it tough to find housing, she claims.
