A massive fire tore through a 1-million-square-foot medical distribution facility in Tracy on Thursday afternoon, unleashing explosions, thick plumes of black smoke, and a large-scale emergency response that forced nearby warehouses to evacuate.
The blaze erupted shortly before 2 p.m. inside a facility operated by Medline Industries, located in the ProLogis International Park of Commerce, according to the San Joaquin County Office of Emergency Services.

ABC33/40Fire officials said the inferno remained contained to the Medline structure, but the danger quickly spread across the surrounding industrial complex, prompting evacuations at neighboring facilities, including warehouses operated by FedEx and Amazon.
Tracy Fire Chief Randall Bradley said in a briefing that crews initially tried to attack the flames from inside the building, but conditions quickly overwhelmed them.
Authorities believe the fire may have started on the roof of the massive warehouse.
Inside, critical firefighting systems reportedly failed at the worst possible moment, with sprinklers not operating and no water pressure available from hydrants within the facility, complicating containment efforts.

Multiple big-rig containers and vehicles in the area were seen burning as explosions echoed through the scene, further intensifying the chaos.

Firefighters were battling against wind and temperatures of over 100 degrees. BACKGRIDOfficials also confirmed that multiple fires were being reported in the surrounding area, forcing coordinated emergency responses as crews worked to prevent further spread.
Weather conditions added another layer of difficulty, with Chief Bradley noting extreme environmental factors.

The company markets roughly 190,000 products under its own brand, including about 70,000 it manufactures directly.
It operates 70 distribution centers and 30 manufacturing facilities worldwide.
