Gov. Cuomo will announce Thursday that he backs a $15 minimum wage for all New York workers — not just those in the fast-food industry, sources said.
Cuomo will make the announcement during an appearance with Vice President Joe Biden at the Javits Center.
The governor convened a labor- board panel earlier this year that recommended boosting the minimum wage to $15 for fast-food workers by 2018 in the city and 2021 upstate.
The state minimum wage is currently $8.75 and is scheduled to rise to $9 on Dec. 31.
Business leaders gave a thumbs-down to Albany requiring a $15 entry wage, claiming it would be a job killer.
NYC Partnership CEO Kathry Wylde said “a precipitous increase that threatens the most vulnerable businesses and employees would not find a lot of supporters in the business community.”
Allies of Mayor de Blasio were pleasantly surprised by Cuomo’s move.
In February, Cuomo called the mayor’s push for a $15 minimum wage a “nonstarter.”
