Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Monday that Bronx City Councilman Ruben Diaz Sr. deserves to be punished for making controversial anti-gay remarks.

Diaz has claimed that the council is “controlled by the homosexual community” — a remark the governor said was “outrageous.”

“There’s no place for that kind of rhetoric. Especially in this state, especially at this time, especially with everything we’ve done and what we represent,” Cuomo said.

He noted New York approved gay marriage in 2011 and GENDA — the Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act — last month.

“It’s disrespectful and in very poor taste,” he said.

“If he should be sanctioned … I think it would be justified. But it’s up to [Council Speaker] Corey Johnson,” Cuomo said.
