ALBANY – Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Andrew Cuomo has a strong, 72-16 percent, job approval rating and comfortably leads would-be GOP challengers Rick Lazio, 58-26 percent, and Carl Paladino, 59-23 percent, a new poll out this morning showed.

The Quinnipiac University survey found Attorney General Cuomo widening his lead over former Long Island U.S. Rep. Lazio by three percentage points, to 58-26 percent, since its last poll in April, contradicting a recent Siena College poll showing Cuomo slipping slightly.

The poll showed virtually no change in Cuomo’s 59-23 percent lead over Buffalo builder Paladino.

The poll also found New Yorkers are apparently unaware that Cuomo released a 225-page book in May outlining a wide array of policy positions.

By 64-21 percent, voters said Cuomo isn’t doing enough to explain what he would do to fix the state’s massive budget problems.
